A very common situation: a driver arrives at a logistics yard with a truck full of goods to unload, but he also has instructions to pick up a different shipment. This means that your administrative crew must be diligent in dispatching and assigning tasks to this driver to prevent delays, bottlenecks, or long waiting times for the drivers. Until now, drivers must register multiple times or repeatedly leave and re-enter the premises to keep track of these combined deliveries.
Surely there must be an easier way to do this?
With this new Peripass feature, a single reference code activates the combined transports group. Peripass then allows dispatchers to handle multiple transactions, dispatch them in the correct sequence, and keep a traceable path of these movements. Drivers only need one reference code to register their multiple shipments. This is a big time saver, as drivers check in only once and do not have to re-enter the site numerous times.
All expected transports of the day are automatically created in Peripass, which then recognises the combined transports. The system immediately connects them so that they now carry the label “combined transport” when looking at the detailed visitor card.
When a driver arrives, they register with just one of their references, and Peripass recognises from this code that it is a combined shipment. In this one registration sequence, all information about the driver will be collected, covering all references in the group.
All different operations of the group are automatically linked. While the dispatcher has a detailed view of the steps of the (un)loading operations, only one operation at a time can be dispatched according to a predefined sequence.
It is a great time-saver for the drivers. They no longer need to check in multiple times to create a clear path for the dispatching crew. Previously, these drivers were often requested to leave and re-enter a site after completing the individual steps of their combined shipment.
Your dispatching crew will benefit from the improved overview of the sequence of actions in all the combined transports. They will be able to see the next planned action, but only one operation is dispatched at a time. This prevents a warehouse dock from prepping a shipment while the truck is still being unloaded a few doors down. By securing the correct dispatching order, you prevent delays, bottlenecks, and long waiting periods for drivers.
Lastly, your logistics operators now have a clean to-do list because the Yard Operator App can only get the tasks corresponding to the currently active shipment. There is a clear audit trail of each operation for each shipment, with pictures, timestamps and completed security checks.
The next update of this feature will include the group’s on-the-spot creation when a driver indicates they are here for multiple things and have multiple shipment numbers. This extension of the feature will be helpful for unexpected grouped shipments or when a combined transport was missed when creating these groups. We expect to deliver this feature by the end of Q4 of 2024, so keep an eye out for our newsletter with the announcement.
