Automatic task creation for asset management

Product updates

Managing a yard filled with trailers and containers, and especially managing it well, is a lot of work. Asset management as it is done today hinges on the efficiency of your shunter driver and the keen eye of your dispatcher. As shunter drivers work their way down their to-do list in the Yard Operator App, dispatchers assign them new tasks based on the positions of the trailers and containers as they see them on the digital twin.

A good system, but we believe in continuous improvement! So, Peripass has created an update: triggers and actions on asset management or automatic task creation for assets. It will be a huge time saver for everyone using the Yard Operator App.

Automatic task creation in the Yard Operator App by Peripass

What is automatic task creation for assets?

The new feature of adding triggers and actions to your asset management makes it possible to speed up and improve the handling of trailers and containers. By defining the flow they are working on, you guarantee the correct order of tasks at a faster rate. After completing the previous task, these flows automatically activate the next task on the operators’ mobile devices.

You simply define what action happens after:

  1. an asset’s status changes (e.g. “empty” to “loaded”)
  2. an asset’s location changes (e.g. from “expected” to “dropped off at a parking spot”)
  3. when a task related to an asset is finished (e.g. trailer was moved from the dock to a parking spot).

Benefits of automatic task creation for your company

Automatic task creation for assets means dispatchers don’t need to monitor your yard to assign tasks to shunter drivers. They now have time to manage other tasks. They can increase their efficiency and handle dispatching more trucks. You might need fewer dispatchers on the team, reassigning them to another role in your company or downsizing their role.

With automatic task creation, you can decide which operator can see which task and at what time. By predefining the workflow your shunter or Tugmaster drivers are working on, you guarantee the correct order of tasks at a faster rate. Faster? Yes, because the system of triggers and actions creates an organised and easy-to-follow to-do list. As a result, drivers only see the tasks they can complete at that moment. After completing a task, the flow automatically activates the next task on the operators’ mobile devices.

Additionally, you have real-time visibility into every task’s execution and can collect and analyse data to increase your operations’ performance. With our integration mapping tool, you can easily send any collected data to your ERP, WMS, QMS, or TMS.

Example of the yard management software of Peripass, in the Yard Operator App.

Our customer, Bridgestone, uses the Yard Operator App to manage their complex container and trailer flow.

Benefits of automatic task creation for on-site shunter drivers

For your on-site shunter drivers, the benefits of automatic task creation are in their efficiency. Their Yard Operator App to-do list is clean, organised and easy to monitor. All without manual interference from dispatchers or the use of walkie-talkies.

An example:

  1. As instructed, a truck driver dropped off an empty trailer in parking spot P12 and left the site.
  2. Using his PIN code at the exit barrier triggers a task in the Yard Operator App for the correct operator.
  3. The shunter driver gets a notification on their Zebra or similar device that the trailer needs to be moved to loading dock D5.
  4. Once he has completed this step, he checks it in the app and starts working on the next yard task.
  5. The checked to-do triggered a notification for your warehouse crew that they can start loading the trailer at D5.
  6. When they indicate the loading is done in their App, the shunter driver automatically gets another task on his to-do list: moving the full trailer to parking spot P43.
  7. When he checks this task, a new trigger is sent to your dispatching dashboard, showing the full trailer’s new position.
  8. A new truck driver checks himself in and receives an SMS message with his PIN, the parking spot where he can drop off his empty trailer and the location of the full trailer he needs to pick up.

Your shunter or Tugmaster driver can get more done without a cluttered task list.
